Yeah but Mr.X it would be cool to set up a little store if ya won the Lotto  That's probably the only way such enthusiast niche stores could operate. If run by an eccentric rich proprietor. At a complete monetary loss of thousands per month but it wouldn't matter. It would be just for fun! Maybe even hire an old repair tech and start doing repairs. Order all the stores "stock" from e-bay and Yahoo Japan etc., Just the weird boxes I like and have them there to sell... sometimes for prices below what it cost to buy em'... CrRAzyy stuff like that I would do just to mess with objective reality

I've been close, there was a local garage in a nice neighborhood, the old owner was a landscaping company and the city didn't want that there. I would have kept the back for a workshop and put in a vintage audio store front. I've also thought a shared building like an antique store might work. Several stalls for audio and maybe some other equipment but with an audio theme, throw in some beverages and it would be gold.

Inventory is the hard part, when you're looking at $1000-$3500 per month (just throwing numbers out) in rent, that's a ton of equipment that needs to be sold. We had a cool shop for a short time, records, equipment and inventory at a small mall. The guy was older and had some health issues but always loved talking about music or gear. I think the mall gave him a sweatheart deal on the space, just to get tenants in the mall. The guys that seem to be making a decent attempt get a ton of freebies or equipment for little money.
