The Infinity RS-002 Intimate Portable Stereo, a really nice clunky portable, the brown and silver with smoked cassette door cover are spectacular in person. This is a heavy unit, the sliding R + L volume control have just enough force and quality movement. I found mine at a thrift years ago, it was well taken care of and not much could be found about it. Now there's much more information on this beautiful part of portable history. This is also in the magazine posted above.
Sometimes you don't know which Grundig your getting, some are over the top beautiful but they seemed to have imbraced their plastic side in later years. I imagine these used to give Sony Multibands a run for the money back then. The Grundig Cosmopolit Multi-Band Cassette Player from 1991
Sony ICF-SW1000T World Band Receiver With Cassette Recorder! From 1996 Holy cow is this cool, I've never seen this model before but I'm going to start looking for one. Multi-band with cassette and if you think it's a lightweight, look at the price at the end, it must have been one of the high end models at the time. Were any of the ICF Models "Walkmans"?
Sorry, it's just a cover photo but pretty risky for 1980, a very early "Sony Soundabout" cover shoot but the story is on a headphone enhancement circuit. From 1980
Target Tuner from 1987, in the transistor days they had some cool shapes but these only tune in the station that gives them out. Anybody have one?
This popped up on the search engine, the band Asia, sponsored by Sony Walkman! From the great www.AmericanRadioHistory.com Website
Takin a break from shoveling the 8" of snow we got today, here's the Unisef H-2P Portable Cassette Player. I've got one Unisef and the quality is a little better than entry level, maybe it's the name that turned people off. Here's another version with speakers, is it a boombox?
I don't get many stations on my mini shortwaves but they are still really neat and live nicely next to my Walkmans. From 1984 Changing Times Magazine
These hybrid short-wave portable cassette players are pretty neat, this Roberts RC818 looks nicely built but I never saw any over here. You can see from the price these weren't cheap when new.
Very early article on Compact Cassette Players being the hot Christmas Item. 1980 was a great year for cassettes, all four players; home, boombox, portable, car were taking off like crazy. From December 27, 1980
