The Sony MZ-R50 MiniDisc Recorder from the same issue of Stereo Review found over on www.AmericanRadioHistory.com. A very nice looking MD player, but at $400 USD was very expensive. These probably retailed for around $250 over here, ($200 dealer price + mark up) after they were on the shelves for awhile.

"You should have a friend at the battery factory" Yep this equipment ate batteries and they weren't cheap, the models with a a radio were better since that lasted well after the tape deck running out of juice.

These are neat well-built boxes that take two cassettes in the one door, they're just a little beefier than most models. This press release is from Electronics Today July 1986

HHB Communications Portadat PDR1000 from Music & Media 1994. They call them "shoulder-portable" I always thought they were "field recorders."

KLH Solo from Billboard 1984. This is a nice model but by 1984 it was considered a brick compared to the new Sony & AIWA Offerings.
