There's some interesting information including the first outing with the prototype that I don't remember hearing before and the fact that Toshiba had already trademarked "Walky," one of the names Sony was tossing around.
Walkpeople, The Straits Times 1987 The headphones were the biggest drawback, nobody wore full size cans in public, they looked to goofy, even the smaller Walkman Headphones took awhile to get used to.
Here's an ad from 1987 for SGS Semiconductors, I wonder if they are using "Walkman" generically or they built parts for it. Maybe they are one of the elusive clone manufacturers. SGS was an Italian Company but merged it's chip making with Philips around this time.
