Talking about a local newspaper :)
Below the Walkman picture it reads: 600 Dutch gilders (gulden), pretty expensive indeed as the DX100 I have had it original price tag on the box: 649 gulden.
Last part of the article: some very good ones are closer to 1000.

Consumer Guide's 1984 List of the Best Buy Portable Players, all these are classic units but hardly best buys. For 84 I'd consider them more of the nicer players still available that aren't "plastic fantastic."

Consumer Reports 1997 Buying Guide, most of their reviews are targeted at the everyperson so you'll see the easily found models reviewed.

Consumer Reports 1983 Buying Guide. While CR has a year end buying guide, these reviews are pulled from their monthly issues.
I was a huge Sanyo Sportster Fan back then and it's cool seeing them rank so high. I was a broke student that loved skateboarding and anything I had like this didn't live long in my world. I remember they used to be around $42 USD but I'd look for them on sale for closer to $35, still big money back then when minimum wage was $3.35/hr.

Some new products for 1984 from Lui Magazine. Some iconic products for what many consider a great stretch of the 80's. Music, movies and gadgets were hitting all eight cylinders, check out the JVC VHS Recorder, plus early press for the Sony D-50. The little Sony FM Radio is a beautiful example of industrial design back when everything was getting an artist's treatment. I'm not sure about the Nike's, it looks like a nylon version?

Stereoplay 1987, it look s like a review of the best portables from 1987
Price is in DM and the last column looks like the date of manufacturing. The Toshiba KT-4055 makes a big showing! There's several rare Hitachi's also making a good effort.
