With that Yamaha you don't have to use the Basf tower because it's a combination of a cd/tuner/amplifier.
A stand-alone cd player that also plays MP3 is not very common in a small footprint, an example is the Denon @Mister X mentioned (BTW, I'm not sure it plays MP3, the manual does not say it does, and I don't like the fact that it's a 3-disc changer. Those mechanics always go wrong).
Denon also has the DCD-F107 but that one is a bit wider than the Basf system.
Teac has the PD-H380 which is 215mm wide, that matches the Basf system pretty nice, and the PD-H01 or the PD-301-X that even has a digital tuner built-in.

You guys got more of the Yamaha Mini's then we did but that's a nice looking unit and looks really close in size.

If you look for a cd player sized 210 - 280 wide, there is not an abundance of players to choose from.
The Basf=Aiwa set is 210mm wide so you have limited choice. And you want to have a bit of similar looks.

It quickly comes down to something from mini systems made by Yamaha, Kenwood, Onkyo, Denon and Sony.
The Teac I mentioned is also part of a system stack but not very easy to find, at least in this part of the world.

I'm looking at the AIWA Version and the directions are on the bottom (this is in Japanese).

It looks like it only displays either the timer time or present time by pressing the "Present Time" button. These units are so rare it's hard to find much information.

The present time button does nothing..alle other do something. So i can set the timer or sleep and yes that works. But in normal mode...the time display always stays the same..no advancement.

ok..the timer still has issues but...

this is the perfect combination as a compact hifi and super speakers. I tried several combination but these silver metal beovox cx100 are perfect and the sound coming out of these is just incredible. So much bass.
I bought them second hand and renewed the cones and everything, put blue cloth on...
and now i'm in love ;-)

It looks great with those speakers. We got some B&O Speakers over here but mostly larger.

I received my M-101 today - the "Carryin' Compo" - and am very happy with it. I used to have one in the '80s, but sold it (doh!). But this one, despite being a little dirty, seems to be in better condition that I remember mine being it. The previous owner must have taken pretty good care of it :) It sounds very clean with the tuner. I'm looking forward to adding a BT adaptor on the aux input on the back.

Still, the cassette desk, as is usually the case, is the problem. I've not tried it yet, but I'm reluctant to do so - if the belts have melted, running it can make a big mess inside. I don't, yet, have a cassette to try anyway. The 'rew' key is oddly loose, so that needs some work.

I found a belt kit and repair manual for SD-L10 (the cassette deck) but they're for the "AH" model, while mine is the "K". I wonder how much difference that makes. Can anyone tell me before I plonk down £££ on them?

I think it'll be really difficult to fix, but I might have a go...and also keep an eye out for any others on ebay. Has anyone attempted a repair on these compact units?

I'm not sure what AH or K mean for a tape deck, mines in the back of my closet and too hard to get without a little work moving stuff around. I have to believe the belts are all the same, the last numbers are usually power supply and sometimes other markets got different noise reduction.

Nice find on the M-101, I love those boxes, welcome to the club!

I suspect the same - ie it's mostly the same, especially the belts and probably the keys too - so maybe I will pick up the parts and have a go. I'm well aware that it's going to be difficult project. I wish there was a video of someone attempting it (and succeeding!).

BTW, I don't consider myself as joining the club - even though it's been 30-odd years since I had my previous one, I've always been in the club :) I must admit, though, that the M-501 is my favourite of the non-(trans)portable ones, especially with the rack shown in that add you posted. One of my friend's parents at school (one of the teachers) had one and I was smitten with it ever since. The cassette deck is to die for :) I wish there was a better pic of the system in that rack.

Sounds like you were a founding member. I never remember ever seeing a mini stereo over here let alone an AIWA. I did find a newspaper ad in a city near me from back then that did advertise the boxed compo, they must have sold a few.

EC3E25A6-D5E3-4E45-AC8B-53346BB17478.jpeg Hello everyone, new to this forum having just acquired 2 Aiwa 22 systems one with L30 cassette deck. Like most posts on the forum the L22 cassette deck isn’t working. Is it the case that once these stop working they can’t be repaired?

Oh hell no. For me, cassette decks just needs replacement of the belts. That's all I ever do. I don't have any rack models like what you have or mini components if you will. I only have that brand in boomboxs lots of them and one complete 6 plus 1 cd player in dash plus changer for the car. I may even have a few Iowa stupid phone can't spell Iowa Aiwa Walkman.

If I can change a $5 gasket that's under the car engine, needs most of the front rotating pieces taken off and a bizillion tiny screws that you can't see. Then someone should be able to fix the L22 where everything is in plain site. I do have one around here; maybe I'll tackle it this winter. Video or take a ton of photos, memory retention after a couple hours drops exponentially and you'll forget where the different size screws go.

Those are really nice, I think you had more over there then we got. I'll have to research the L30, I don't think I have one but I might.
