    In case your wondering, this is the "10" series, just a hair smaller than the more famous "22" series. They are both really cool but the "22" is a little beefier and a little more refined. I'm pretty sure this one was first for a short time and then the 22's came out and had a lot more units to go with it. I don't know a lot about "flight case" boomboxes but I'd guess this is the first followed by Kenwood, Marantz/UNIX and Telefunken, and some more super-cool obscure models.

    The System 22 was first produced in 1978. It was cosmetically (and to a small extent technically) updated and released in 1980 as System 30 (M-301 with cassette, tuner and separate pre and power amps, M-302 same but with a single integrated amplifier). As the same time (it may have been 1980 or 1981) AIWA released other systems matching the new cosmetic look, including the M-101, so this definitely came after the 22 series had already been replaced.     I think the 22 series is mains only which makes sense given the output power. The 10 series can be run from 12V.

    That makes sense, the RB-10 Battery Pace seems to only be with the 10 Series. Check out this handle and case! The dual antennas make it look like something from the space program, I had to check out my tuner to see if there was any special antenna hook up on the back but there isn't.

    Edit: Just found out this is the AIWA 35 Series, one of the most rare versions.

    I don't think so, but I haven't really researched it. I think that was just a 79-81 trend. After that, manufacturers realized few people were willing to carry 40 lbs.

    22 tape and tuner had 12v which made them OK for your Kombi van but you'd have to find another amp...

    I keep forgetting cigarette lighter inverters are fairly new, in the old days it was direct to 12v.

    I'm sure I have one of those somewhere, just the amp and no other parts, sounds pretty good too. Think I found it at a boot sale for about £3. I will one-day photograph all my stuff and post it up, it's been hidden away from me for too long now!
