PHILIPS D8614
maria - 2012-03-03 09:12
Hello everyone. I found a Philips D8614 a few months ago. I am using it all the time with my patients. Sadly the tape deck will as of today only play, will not record or reverse (renew). What can I do. Is there anyone in London who could fix it for me ?
Many thanks.
Maria

I have sent for a tape which "cleans" the tape deck. If that is not the problem I have been given the name of an electronics shop in Tott. Ct. Rd. and I shall take it there to be fixed (I hope !!) Thank you for your help.

Hi, the likely problem is the belts need changing on the tape deck. Unfortuantely this means opening the unit up and getting at the belts to replace them with new. If you are unable to do this yourself then I would highly recommend that you do indeed take it to an electronic repair shop and they will take good care of it. Good luck.

It more likely belts, dirty heads won't cause that poblem. Becarefull with local shops, as most don't do that type of repair anymore and do bare basics, plus charge way to much for a simple repair. I had one of my customer got his back in a plastic bag in pieces, because the guy didn't know how to change the belt and couldn't get it back together, plus it took over a month before he got it back. He ended up senting it to me and fixed it for him. I could do it but would cost alot to ship, back and forth unfortunately, isn't cost effective. If it just belt I only charge $40 labor and relube and clean it up.
If you do it locally, just ask if they can change belts in a cassette player and if they do component level repair, if they say yes then, then you may have found a good shop. Also the good shops won't charge over $50 bucks, for a belt change, as it's a easy repair, unless it a crack plastic piece, or bad caps, which then will cost more. The crap shops are the ones that charge 100's before even looking at it requiring you pay a deposit and don't fix the problem, or get it back in pieces.
