Hello New here and just got this Boombox to start my Collection . I got it from a from a Charity Shop and is anybody able to help me identify it/year it was released please as Google shows nothing when i put its Sticker label in. It has a couple of issues The Cassette door (Deck 2) you have to lift open manually (No idea how to repair) and the Aux in sounds pants when hooked up to a iPod/Record Player Other than that the Cassette(When you get one in) and Radio work perfectly and give off some nice thumps/sounds.

(Sorry about the Photo it was taken on my cats bed as it was the only decent place i could put it for now)

Hi Jacko & welcome to s2g.

Now here's someone with taste, going for a 3D, right at the start

Hitachi TRK 3D5E (the E means European model, runs of mains 220-240V AC input & affects which radio bands you get, like LW)...

This is from 1985 & is one of the nicer 3Ds, IMHO. Loads of features & nice sound. Not the loudest, but quite compact.

A shame the aux-in isn't working. Can you describe the problem in more detail? It could be nothing more than dirty switches, especially if the sound is good with other sources.

Here's a scan of a Hitachi brochure page with the 3D5 in:

& this post has a full brochure for the 3D5, amongst others:

Had another go with the Record Player on the Aux in. Te Best way to describe it is like its trying to blow its speakers up(Atr bout 2/3rds volume upwards) its okay if i turn the 60hz(Bass i think) Slider all the way down. Like a tearing noise on the Speakers/Woofers. It dosent do it on the Radio/Cassette (Not even at high volumes) just the Aux. Kind of Embarrassing knowing that the Stereo is older than me . What would you say about the Cassette door also?

:EDIT: Also Cleaning it up atm too Starting to look pretty nice. for £16 i was expecting a little work :S

congrats, i love those 45degrees angle woofers, you can see em bump better than if they are vertically mounted

Good choice! I'm new to this too and got one of these as box number 3 after buying a 3D7 as box number 2...love them both as they have good bass. This will get you addicted...I'm up to box number 8 and I've only been collecting for a couple of months! Hope you get it working!

Re: the aux-in trouble: it could be the'record player'  is not the right type of sound source, or it's level is too high. If you have an iPod or anything with a headphone output, try that, with the volume set at half to 2/3 ( & any EQ set flat/off). Let us know how that sounds...

I think the inputs were too high. It did the same with a iPod and my Mobile phone too. Its kinda fun tweaking with the EQ to get it right. Also ive opend the unit up and Cleaned it all out inside/Contacts (Was full of MDF Dust etc) The only thing thats bugging me is where i can get the Black and the Metal part for the front re p[ainted as they look a little tired. But other than that (Cassette regarding) its running fine now. Thanks for the help too
