my nice rcs5 is also on a picture there!

seb968 - 2013-10-01 13:08

I like the look of the RC-S5, would go well with my RC-S1!!

seb968 - 2013-10-01 13:12

Hi Walkgirl. I love your avatar.

northerner - 2013-10-01 14:29

Ha ha love the strap line 'FOREMOST IN MUSICAL ACTION'...who thought that gem up? Great scans...love looking thro old ads, kinda makes the boxes seem new again if you know what I mean

northerner - 2013-10-01 14:31

Oh and I happen to know that walkgirls avatar is Chococat!...before you get worried about me i only know because its been my daughters favourite soft toy for years!

seb968 - 2013-10-01 15:05

Chococat! Thanks for the info on that, didn't know, not up on these things being of the Bagpuss generation! Brochers are the closest one can get to time travel in a way. It's not just the fact that the machines look new it's the background art, the sales blurb and as you say the corney tag lines! There was so much bull**** technobable in the 80's concerning tape recording technology! Hey maybe that could make a good thread....

brutus442 - 2013-10-01 19:05

Love these scans!!!

I especially love looking at the optional accesories for the PC-5. Carrying case, car speakers. I bet these options are rarer than the box itself! LOL

freddie.boombox - 2013-10-01 19:47

i have the rc 838 and rc 550 two of best from my colecction!

ao - 2013-10-01 22:55

That's great, there's a few pics here which we haven't seen before, in facy, not sure we've ever had the sales brochure for the 550 before.

Doesn't it amuse you that many of these brochures attempt to display boomboxes as the center of your hi-fi system, not sure I've ever considered doing this.  Also, a strap for a PC-5, really?  Have you even tried lifting one, surely strap will put your shoulder out?

Great stuff, many thanks for going to the effort of showing.

ao - 2013-10-01 22:56

Oh, just moved this to it's appropriate section of the forum, hope you don't mind.  Also, please feel free to scan any more you may have.

schneil - 2013-10-02 02:21

The brochure must be a non Europe version as the entry for the 656 refers to line in and out, and two shortwave bands.

seb968 - 2013-10-02 04:59

No, don't mind at all. Have a few more things I can scan and post.

seb968 - 2013-10-02 05:01

Well spotted. The brocher came from came from Canada via ebay!

deech - 2013-10-04 09:32

seb968 - 2013-10-05 03:19

deech - 2013-10-05 03:25

bison - 2013-10-06 16:41

Being without an M-70 is a situation I wish to remedy some day!

Love the JVC advertisements, especially for the P5 in which was my favorite box at one time. Came very very close to buying one too if I wasn't saving to go on a charter fishing trip with friends. There was a lot of advertisements on the P6 and the Quintet also.

martymcfly - 2014-02-28 13:50

Great scans Seb, thanks a million.  How I used to drool over these brochures back in the day.  Great Hi Res printed nicely.

Cheers

Marty

I always liked the look of the JVC portable component systems; I reckon the P5 would be well worth getting hold of.  (Funny fact, P5 and P6 were also model numbers for 1960's /70's Rover motor cars!)

Definitely the first radios I've dreamt about nightly...lol. I remember vividly the JVC ads on the television, newspapers and magazines with the Harlem Globetrotters and Earth Wind & Fire. This was around '81 to '83. Seemed like everyone that I knew who went into the military at that time were coming home with the RC 550 and I don't understand because they sounded mediocre to me and I've listened to a lot of them, IMHO.

Yes, the Rover P5 & P6 were nice European rides. My dad raved over them big time.

retro - 2014-03-01 01:38

Great scans Seb, as AO mentioned, a few of these photos are new to me as well.

tster - 2014-03-01 10:27

Really appreciate these scans Sebby, being reasonably new to all this they are all unseen to me so real gems, thanks a lot mate.

deliverance - 2014-03-01 10:36

shane - 2014-03-01 14:21

Drool...

Well put, like creating a kitchen around a camping stove. I do however like the accessories that were available for the PC-5.

Hi Seb - for some reason I thought you were doing up a M70 - maybe I'm imagining things (I'm getting old and tired - tell me I didn't imagine it)   ...ps, great scans!

You are not imagining things At all mate! This is actualy one of my first posts on s2g. About two months after posting this i won an M-70 on ebay. It was a basket case which I spent some time on. Hopefully there is a window in my schedule comming up so i can finish the restoration, i have most of the bits now. Other jobs keep getting in the way though!  I really want to finish her though!

jt.techno - 2014-03-04 23:39

OK Seb, cool, glad I've not totally lost it yet ;-)  Good luck in completing your M70 restoration - looking forward to seeing final pics and knowing how it all turned out :-)
